Character Name: Marcus Pierce
World breakdown: His world is more or less Like Reality Unless Noted, and the majority of those notes happen to do with ~magic~

-Magic is a learned skill, not genetic. Few people, however, really discover their potential. It's kept pretty ambiguous what magic comes from, but it's mental/emotion based and powered by a person or thing's "life force". Certain non-living things, like the ocean and stars/space, also have their own reserves of magical energy, which sometimes spawn sentient creatures of their own.

-Magic education is typically done through an apprenticeship system: witch families give their children to be apprentices to other wizards they know, while wizards who want to pass on their skills also often recruit muggles they think have the potential to be good wizards.

-The magical world is a lot more modernized than you'd expect from, say, the Fate/ or Harry Potter universes. This is partially due to belief in magic fading out with the advent of more scientific methods, leading to wizards fusing the two in an attempt to make their practices more relevant. Scientific/technological methods are also often quicker, more reliable, and more easily accessible than magic for people who don't have a lifetime of expertise, which explains their advancement.

-A lot of magical creatures exist, from kitsune/kumiho to magical fauna like barghests to horrorterror-like space demons. But not vampires. Or werewolves. Or dragons. Seriously, those are all ridiculous.

-Most wizards tend to specialize in just one broad field of magic, although they're not limited to *only* using magic in that field except by their own finite time and energy.

Character history: It actually began rather humbly. Pierce was raised in an uber-religious fundie muggle household and discouraged from anything even resembling witchcraft. Given where he is today, it obviously didn't stick, and his rebellious attitude led to a lot of clashes with his birth family.

Nothing too out of the ordinary, at least until he got into college. For most people with Pierce's background, this would be a normal period of experimentation and questioning the worldviews you grew up with. It still was, but one of his professors was (secretly) a prominent sorceress looking for understudies. After sussing out his general personality and potential for magic, she decided to give him a try. He was young and stupid at the time and, one day, while his mentor was out, decided to attempt some magic that was just a bit beyond his level.

This botched summoning was when he met her. By her, I'm of course referring to a thousands-of-years-old glitchy space demon who derives nourishment from consuming souls and is kind of mind-boggling to look at for most people.

He actually liked her a little.

...okay, they didn't actually get together until 12-13 years later, as their relationship was one of the slowest burns ever, but fact of the matter is that "Elle" (which I refer to her as to avoid even touching her real name) was a pretty significant turning point in his life. Inspired by his bumblefucking his way into the outer planes, he dedicated years of the rest of his life into studying the art of summoning and interdimensional travel. Some time after this, he met Elle again. They married after several years and currently have two horrible, eldritch children.

Fast forward to the present day of 201X. Now a respected member of his local wizarding guild and also working a day job as a lawyer, Pierce is living what appears to be a more or less normal (for him) life when a witch he recognized (but seldom interacted with) appeared in his office, asking him about a specific set of runes and evidence of other weird creepy ritual shit he might possibly be familiar with.

WHICH THEN LED TO THE REVELATION THAT THERE WAS AN UNDEAD SERIAL KILLER DOING THE BODY HOP WITH A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT PEOPLE and is also about where our story ends..for now.

Character personality: While he's not one to openly oppose or confront people without what he believes to be a good reason, Pierce is...just a bit suspicious of nearly anyone in any sort of authority. A lot of this has come from his upbringing, but the rebelliousness of his youth has mostly just faded away into cautious skepticism. He will still, however, question the reasoning and motives behind almost everything and harbors a deep resentment for anyone who expects blind compliance.

Somewhat hand in hand with this is the fact that Pierce also has a rather curious nature and is more than willing to experiment, alone or with others, to find new solutions to a problem. This will likely come in handy in-game as this trait (plus the fact that he, while not a genius, is still fairly intelligent) is good for any sort of investigations the player characters might have to conduct.

He can be super passive-aggressive and a snarky jerk when angered. He's also not big into explosive confrontations, instead letting his resentment slowly simmer over a period of time. While he doesn't hold people's flaws against them under normal circumstances, triggering his issues with authority and dogma, or just being a colossal dick, will probably push him over towards nastiness.

Another issue of his--probably borne from years of dealing with beings that had quite different morality from most humans--is his complete lack of shits given about humanity as a species. While he still cares very much about individual people and in general will be upset if humans are dicks to each other, he's not going to give any shits if, say, aliens blow up the planet. He also has achieved a sort of inner chill by accepting that most things are meaningless in the greater scope of the universe, so if anything, he just considers this a sense of perspective. Even so, he has the view that the desire to be memorable in any way is kinda pointless.

Despite his uh, eccentricities, he's a fairly laid-back and nurturing individual. Especially the latter. Seriously. This man was born to dad. The most fulfilling thing in the world, to him, is just to be able to guide and care for other human beings, so he'll be totally down for all the castle's sorcerer dad needs.

Powers/Abilities: Pierce's main ability is to summon creatures from alternate dimensions into the one he's currently in. Out of a desire not to game-break things, this will be completely nerfed upon his arrival, although he's going to be more than a little salty about it.

While his magical abilities cover a lot of different odds and ends, the most important ones are listed here:

-Astral projection: Pierce can have his soul temporarily exit his physical body to access other dimensions (completely nerfed in this game) or just keep an eye on things in his current dimension (what I'm going to use it for). I will only have him ICly observe things about other characters with player permission. Also, while astrally projecting, he can't do much else except observe. He also is unable to protect his physical form while doing this, so he usually uses it when he's asleep.

-The ability to make little note cards depicting text or images of his choice appear out of thin air without having to physically be in a location. These passive agressive magical post it notes will not really do anything besides be super fuckin annoying.

He can also cook a perfect breakfast, but this doesn't have anything to do with magic.

Items on your character:
The clothes on his back, which currently consist of:
-One pair of dad jeans
-One black button-up shirt
-loafers
-A strange necklace that consists of an interesting, translucent dark red rock suspended on a thin gold chain. The rock is always warm to the touch, even when everything else is cold.
-A pair of dad glasses
-A gold ring

In addition to this, he's also in possession of these objects in a leather briefcase:

-A grimoire bound in a strange leather that has several notes in it.
-A much less gross book (this time an ordinary spiral notebook) also filled with notes
-An ordinary gel hourglass
-A bag of cheeto puffs
-A can of salt
